One of the hardest things to do for horror films is to find real tension. Some films do that by using that moment of silence before the jump scare, but what do you do when the movie is entirely silent? You make that silence the reason you are scared for the characters.

This was by far one of the most well crafted horror movies I can think of for several reasons. But for the sake of my blog I will only go into three.The utilization of sound was phenomenal, the theme, and the acting.

Every choice they made to make sound a character was brilliant. And the villainous nature of sound intensified the film to another level. It also became a bit of an experiment for the audience in the theater because of the silence of the film. It created a sense of hyper awareness of your presence within the film. I tried to eat my snacks as quietly as I could.

The theme that I picked up on, and you might have picked up on something else, was that a parent loves their child no matter what. I honestly could not help but think to myself how frustrated I was getting when I would see the kids on screen. I just knew they were going to make some kind of noise and I was so distraught by that feeling that I knew that the kids were likely not going to make it. I feared for them more than anything and that is likely what the parents were thinking always. That fear drives them to love them even more.

The acting in this film was beyond what I would normally expect from a horror film. Much like Get Out the acting really sold the show. All of these actors including the kids told the story in such a way that we were able to build off of their emotions. I was able to feel everything they felt as they felt it and as they were going through their trials. Perhaps the other elements of the film helped sell these emotions better but their expressions and their limitations built in this world created a factor unlike any other.

A film like this only comes once in a while and I would highly recommend this to everyone I will talk to pay full price to see this and by that I mean see it as soon as you can. This movie was highly enjoyable for a lot of reasons but especially for the Sound, Theme, and Acting. As funny as it seems to say but I think this might be up for a few Sound nominations!
