Sports Corner Rant - Teams I Support

People often ask me what teams I like, then they get confused and possibly regret asking. Since my answer is less than straightforward. I really don't have one team that I like and I like all of them equally. However, the reason I like these teams is simple. Memories of where the home team was and currently is.      This idea came into my mind over the past few years. I used to be strictly a San Diego teams fan. yet that has shifted because two things happened. The first was the realization that the San Diego Padres have seemingly become no more than a AAA team in the major leagues. I love them to death but the chances of them having a winning season and seeing a world series championship are astronomically high against them. It is even laughable to think about how bad they do year after year. Yet I have so many memories of San Diego and the Padres that I will never let them go. They are part of my childhood and will forever be part of me. Yet I have...

Solo: A Star Wars Story - Review - Matinee

Image
Solo: A Star Wars Story Lando Calrissian: I hate you. Han Solo: I know. Solo: A Star Wars Story, Fits nicely into the Star Wars Universe giving us a solid origin of one of the most beloved characters in the saga. The film shows us how the man, myth, and legend of Han Solo began and how he got to be the scruffy looking nerfherder we all love him for. Yet the film struggles in some areas because its full of foreshadowing and fan service of the films before it making this film not fit in its own story but depends on a reliance of prior knowledge. Even so, it is not enough to kill this movie and is by no means a reason why it is doing poorly in the box office. The Good: It was very refreshing to see yet another Star Wars Story with out the intruding influence of Jedi or Sith. In a story telling world it is far to easy to get away with things when Space Wizards are amazing at everything and don't struggle with conflict like the rest of us do. That is why Han Solo was such an...

Avengers: Infinity War - Full Price or Matinee

Avengers: Infinity War Tony Stark: You can't park here, buddy. Earth is closed today. Take your tractor beam and skedaddle. This movie surprised me for a lot of reasons and in a lot of ways but not how you might think. I was very skeptical about the movie for months now because I feared it would not live up to its Ten year hype and build up. Yet now when we finally got to this moment I feel like it was very pretty well thought out. Let's be sure to tell it like it is. It was not perfect. no movie really is perfect despite what fans of Empire Strikes Back would have you think, but that is not the point of this review. I liked a lot more than I thought I would and you should see the good in the movie as well. Thanos, was truly a great antagonist, Story line convergence was well played, and Character interactions were genuine. Here's why... Thanos, was on screen more than most of the heroes, at least it felt like that, I think in some ways he could actually have been...

I Feel Pretty - Matinee

Image
I Feel Pretty (IMDb) Renee Bennett: I can eat whatever I want and still look like this. A lot of times we see comedy movies that don't have a point. Most of the time those movies resort to juvenile jokes and slapstick antics. But I Feel Pretty has a point and makes meaningful jokes through out the film. This film was super enjoyable because of these jokes and they really make you think about the world we live in. So much about the film was good but these three areas really hit home for me, Theme, Comedy, and Acting. We will see how these three areas made the film as great as it can be. The theme that I identified with is with the right amount of confidence you can accomplish anything. That seems like a very far fetched idea but people need to know how true it is. This movie helped shed some light on the subject by regularly expressing how Renee wanted to be "beautiful" in the sense of how the world perceives beauty. Yet when a certain something happened and she ...

A Quiet Place - Full Price

A Quiet Place (IMDb) Favorite Quote: LEE: Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaagh! One of the hardest things to do for horror films is to find real tension. Some films do that by using that moment of silence before the jump scare, but what do you do when the movie is entirely silent? You make that silence the reason you are scared for the characters. This was by far one of the most well crafted horror movies I can think of for several reasons. But for the sake of my blog I will only go into three. The utilization of sound was phenomenal, the theme, and the acting. Every choice they made to make sound a character was brilliant. And the villainous nature of sound intensified the film to another level. It also became a bit of an experiment for the audience in the theater because of the silence of the film. It created a sense of hyper awareness of your presence within the film. I tried to eat my snacks as quietly as I could. The theme that I picked up on, and you might have picked up on something ...

Ready Player One - Full Price!

Image
Ready Player One - IMDb Ready Player One was amazing on a lot of levels. While it was adapted from the book by Earnest Cline, it was molded into its own animal and that was absolutely a good thing. The film found its own footing and carved its own path of nostalgic glory. I liked that quote because in a lot of ways it showed me how ridiculous the human race is. We can find meaning in so many different things and not everyone will have the same perspective. That is truly a beautiful fact about life. Knowing that everyone has their own view of the world around them is not a bad thing at all, but subjecting everyone to one way of thinking is. The three things I loved most about Ready Player One, was that it was: nostalgic, relevant, and marvelous. Being Nostalgic was easy to accomplish because all they had to do was throw in as much of the fun things we all did as kids in the the movie as possible. Yet the way they did it wasn't as in your face as I was expecting. We saw man...
